With Carlos Alcaraz’s star rising faster than ever, the 19-year-old is adding another line to his already impressive resume: Grand Slam champion, world No. 1 and—now—fashion model, after being announced as the new face of Calvin Klein’s underwear campaign, "Calvins or nothing."

Unveiled globally on Tuesday, the campaign was filmed and shot by photographer Gray Sorrenti, who captured the 2022 US Open winner in an evocative series of stripped-back portraits and videos.

“The powerful black and white visuals highlight Carlos’s strength and confidence and recall the innate sensuality the brand is known for,” the brand wrote in a press release.

Much like Alcaraz, photographer Sorrenti—daughter of celebrated photographer Mario Sorrenti—has been a teen phenom herself in the fashion photography world, with her work being featured in Harper’s Bazaar and by CK and Saint Laurent by the age of 22.

While Sorrenti has followed in dad’s footsteps—he famously shot Kate Moss’ own iconic Calvin Klein "Obsession" ad in the 90s—she has forged her own style behind the camera, crafting intimate "Calvins or nothing" campaigns featuring Belgian soccer star Romelu Lukaku, Stranger Things star Maya Hawke, and now Alcaraz.

“Confidence, for me, is to be yourself no matter what,” Alcaraz said in one black-and-white video spot. “I’m still finding myself, and I’m okay with that. That’s who I am.”

He may not have found himself yet, but the Spanish teenager has been finding plenty of success on and off the court following his fast ascent to the top of men’s tennis in 2022.

Alcaraz lifted five of his six career trophies last year, including his first Grand Slam title in Flushing Meadows and a pair of ATP Masters 1000s at Miami and Madrid—and setting a seemingly endless series of ‘youngest player since’ records along the way.

As his star rises, so too does the list of blue chip brands looking to feature the youngest world No. 1 in ATP rankings history in their campaigns. Sponsored by Nike and Babolat for his tennis apparel and equipment needs, Alcaraz inked a deal with Rolex last January and later became an ambassador for BMW Espana.

According to Forbes, Alcaraz took home $10.9 million in earnings last year alone—making him the tenth highest-paid tennis player in a 2022 list led by Roger Federer, Naomi Osaka, Serena Williams and Rafael Nadal—with approximately $5 million of that coming from off-court ventures.

The Spaniard has been fighting to get back to his winning ways after his US Open victory, and recently announced his withdrawal from the Australian Open due to a leg injury sustained during practice. It comes after Alcaraz was forced to sit out the ATP Finals in Turin due to an abdominal injury, missing out on making his long-awaited debut.

But with his focus already turning to rest, rehab and recovery, Alcaraz is joining a long line of professional tennis players who have stripped down to their Calvins in collaboration with the New York City-based brand—from Fernando Verdasco’s "X" campaign in 2010 to Frances Tiafoe’s recent star turn in its "In my Calvins" series.

For its "Calvins or nothing" campaign, the brand has featured an assortment of “of-the-moment” talents including top athletes and creatives from around the world—like soccer stars Trent Alexander-Arnold, Antonee Robinson, Kai Havertz, Richarlison and Virgil Van Dijk—since it debuted in Fall 2022.

Alcaraz was snapped wearing Calvin Klein’s signature Modern Cotton, Cotton Stretch and Cotton Classic underwear, as well as the Classic Straight denim.

He also sported items from the upcoming 1996 Underwear collection, which launches next week and offers “an archive-inspired twist on the brand’s classics, reimagined for a modern look and feel” in black-and-white colorways as well as bold prints.
