Dominic Thiem is on the road to recovery.

Leading 5-2 in the opening set against Adrian Mannarino at the Mallorca Open, it appeared Thiem was back on track following his first-round loss at Roland Garros. However, the Austrian would suddenly suffer a wrist injury that forced him to retire against the world No. 42 and ultimately withdraw from Wimbledon.

Late last month, the reigning US Open champion went back to Barcelona where he saw a specialist and shared the results with his Instagram followers.

"Tests found that there is a ‘detachment of the posterior sheath of the ulnar side of the right wrist’, an injury that will not allow him to compete in the circuit for several weeks," he wrote.

Thiem is currently wearing a splint and is rehabbing to regain full mobility and muscle strength in his wrist, remaining hopeful of a return to court soon. Dr. Angel Ruiz Cotorro and his medical team are supervising Thiem's progress and will advise when it's safe for him to return.

By Wednesday, Thiem was already back in the gym working on his cardio and doing bodyweight exercises. It was an uplighting sight to see, especially for brother Moritz and fellow ATP player Jan-Lennard Struff, who both left fire emojis in the comment section.

Aside from reps in the gym, Thiem is also working on some fancy footwork.

"I’m determined to come back stronger," the world No. 6 said on Instagram last month.
