Players often warm up their volleys too close to the net and without much movement. It may seem productive, but this type of practice doesn't quite mimic what players will actually see in the match. In this video, coach Gordon Uehling demonstrates a warm-up that requires more up-and-back movement that allows players to feel the ball in different places.

John McEnroe is a player that moved all around the box, practiced closing the net, and caught balls at his feet during his warm-up.

"Remember it's important to be familiar with all areas of the net, so you can be prepared for any volley that's coming your way," Uehling said.
