How soon ‘til Serena EGOTs?

Serena Williams is no stranger to the spotlight, and it seems part of her evolution away from tennis involves indulging her born entertainer streak with a cameo in the latest Knives Out film.

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery debuted at the Toronto Film Festival in September, shortly after the 23-time Grand Slam champion played her final Grand Slam match at the US Open, recalled getting the exclusive offer.

“They had wrote me into the script originally,” Williams explained. “They were thinking of me. And I was like, ‘No way, cool!’”

Williams is no stranger to screens both small and silver, featuring in 2018’s Oceans Eight and famously co-starring in Beyoncé’s Sorry music video two years prior. Her IMDB page features an impressive 28 acting credits that dates back to a 2001 voiceover role in The Simpsons.

While acting may be old hat, the former world No. 1 could hardly contain her excitement ahead of the film’s wide release on November 23, complimenting a cast that includes Daniel Craig, Janelle Monáe, and Edward Norton.

“I’m glad it worked out. It’s obviously a great movie; Janelle Monáe does an incredible job. It’s a great cast as well.

“I couldn’t say anything about it for so long that I think I actually forgot about it, but it was really fun.”

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery is a sequel to the original Knives Out film from 2019; following its wide release, the film drops on Netflix in December.
