The Romanian reached that milestone after winning the 24th WTA title of her career at the WTA 1000 event in Toronto.

Simona Halep had a dream week in Toronto, not only capturing the 24th WTA title of her career, but then rising from No. 15 to No. 6 on the WTA rankings, a welcome return to the Top 10 after a calf injury forced her out of the elite just over a year ago.

But there’s another milestone she reached with her triumph up north: with her $439,700 winner’s cheque in Toronto, Halep has surpassed $40 million in career prize money.

She’s the eighth tennis player, male or female, to reach that milestone.

Almost half of Halep’s career WTA titles—11 of 24—have come at the WTA 1000 level or higher, with two Grand Slams (2018 Roland Garros and 2019 Wimbledon) and nine WTA 1000s (2014 Doha, 2015 Dubai, 2015 Indian Wells, 2016 Madrid, 2016 Montreal, 2017 Madrid, 2018 Montreal, 2020 Rome and 2022 Toronto). She's also reached another three Grand Slam finals, and spent 64 career weeks at No. 1 between 2017 and 2019.
