If you were one of the few fans who loved Alex de Minaur’s mustache then you are in luck. The Australian, who is currently playing at the Western & Southern Open, talked about why he got rid of the mustache that apparently made him better at tennis.

“Every time I leave the mustache, I play some of my best tennis,” said Minaur. “We’ll see. If I’m really struggling for confidence, I might need the extra boost, but I already got the feedback that it was horrible.”

It’s always a tough choice between winning matches and looking good.

The Aussie has only played in Cincinnati twice. His best run was in 2019 when he reached the third round against Yoshihito Nishioka. This year, he got off to a shaky start but in the end prevailed to claim his opener, 0-6, 6-4, 6-4, against Filip Krajinovic. He will next face the winner of Gael Monfils and Dusan Lajovic in the Masters 1000 second round.

Will not having the infamous mustache come back to haunt him? Only time will tell...
