Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova announces knee injury, ten-week absence from action

The Russian has been fighting for a long-awaited Top 10 debut since reaching her maiden major final at Roland Garros last spring.

WATCH: Pavlyuchenkova made her major breakthrough last spring at Roland Garros, finishing runner-up to Babora Krejcikova.

Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova will be off for ten weeks with a knee injury. The 30-year-old Russian said it was an ongoing problem but will not require surgery.

"My knee has been bothering me for a year and a half. I played through the pain," she told Sport Express.

Pavlyuchenkova had a big season in 2021, reaching the Roland Garros final, winning the gold medal in Olympic mixed doubles and taking part in Russia's Fed Cup team victory. But she got coronavirus at the start of this season and the knee, which had improved with off-season rehab, bothered her as she returned to competition.

''But the pain unfortunately returned. Following the St. Petersburg tournament, I did an MRI," Pavlyuchenkova said.

The injury will require a month of rest, followed by another MRI to assess her recovery.

"I hope that in four weeks I will return to the courts [for training]," said the tour veteran, currently No. 14 in the rankings.

Having reached as high as No. 11 in the rankings, she has 12 career titles.
