Coach Dmitry Tursunov announces split with Anett Kontaveit

The two began working together in 2021, during which time the Estonian has enjoyed the best results of her career, culminating with a rise to No. 2 in the WTA rankings on Monday.

WATCH: Kontaveit enjoyed a run to the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix quarterfinals before struggling through the subsequent clay-court swing.

Anett Kontaveit has split with coach Dimitry Tursunov, despite having reached a career-high ranking of world No. 2 on Monday.

Tursunov, a former Top 20 ATP player, announced on social media that the pair were stopping their successful seven-month collaboration, which started at the 2021 Western & Southern Open, a WTA 1000 event.

"Feel proud of the work I put in and a bit sad," said Tursunov, who thanked Kontaveit while also congratulating her on her career-high rank.

She was ranked around the Top 30 when the two started working together and won four titles in 2021, also reaching the final of the WTA Finals in Guadalajara.

The 26-year-old Estonian has since won St. Petersburg and reached the finals of Doha but is coming off back-to-back exits in the opening round of Rome and the French Open, suffering from illness during the clay-court swing.

Tursunov has previously coached Elena Vesnina and Aryna Sabalenka, the latter enjoying a similar breakthrough during their partnership in 2018.

Kontaveit has not announced a new coach.
