WATCH: Murray last played at the Australian Open, where he won a five-setter in the first round.

There are some big changes to the big names in Rotterdam, with top seed Daniil Medvedev among the withdrawals while Andy Murray and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga entered the field as wild cards.

Medvedev says he needs a longer break from competition—the 26-year-old Russian fell to Rafael Nadal in a five-set and more than five-hour final at the Australian Open.

"Unfortunately, I will not play in Rotterdam this year. I just got back from Australia and am not ready to compete," Medvedev was quoted as saying in a statement from the tournament.

There have been several other withdrawals going into the event. Marin Cilic, Gaël Monfils and Jannik Sinner, who all had good runs at the Australian Open, are also not playing, joining Roberto Bautista Agut and Borna Coric. According to a tournament press release, Sinner tested positive for coronavirus before traveling to Rotterdam.

But Andy Murray is adding the indoor ATP 500 event to his schedule, which also includes Doha and Dubai in the next few weeks. Still ranked below the Top 100, the three-time Grand Slam champion has received wild cards for all three events.

Another wild card was given to former Grand Slam finalist Tsonga when No. 50 Botic van de Zandschulp, the top-ranked player from the Netherlands, got straight into the main draw and did not need a wild card. The 36-year-old is still below the Top 250 as he returns from an injury layoff that kept him off the tour in the second half of 2021.

Both Murray and Tsonga are former champions at Rotterdam.
