Stan Wawrinka has taken a wild card into the ATP Challenger Tour stop in Marbella next week to start his comeback, the tournament announced.

The three-time Grand Slam champion from Switzerland has not played on tour for more than a year due to a foot injury, and has limited his schedule since undergoing double knee surgery in 2017. But he is aiming for a full return to competitive tennis.

"Since my knee surgery almost five years ago, my dream was winning another ATP title," he told L'Equipe recently.

Wawrinka, 36, has also received wildcards for the Monte Carlo Masters and the French Open, and is a former champion at both events.

The Andalucia Open, which is also played alongside a WTA 125 event, is a clay-court tournament and has ten Top 100 players entered—a strong field for a tournament at this level.

Former world No. 3 Wawrinka is currently No.232 in the ATP rankings.
