Stan Wawrinka has reunited with coach Magnus Norman, who helped him to win three Grand Slam titles.

The 37-year-old from Switzerland said the two decided they wanted to “finish the story together,” including the Australian Open next season.

Wawrinka added that brought the Swedish coach back on his team a few weeks ago before the Moselle Open in Metz, where he reached the semifinals as a qualifier.

Wawrinka had previously been working with Dani Vallverdu, who joined his team for some of 2019 and then, with Norman's decision to leave, became his full-time coach in 2020.

This is Wawrinka's third stint with Norman, who first coached the Swiss ahead of his run to the 2014 Australian Open title. Under Norman, Wawrinka earned two more major victories at 2015 Roland Garros and 2016 US Open.

The former No. 3 has also had a good start this week in Basel, winning 6-4, 6-4 against second seed Casper Ruud in the opening round—one of the best wins of his comeback from foot problems that kept him off the court for most of 2021. He also had double knee surgery in 2017.

“To be able to produce that here in Switzerland is of course something really special,” he said following the win, where his ex-wife, Ilham, and daughter, Alexia, were in the stands.

Currently ranked just inside the Top 200, Wawrinka used a protected ranking for Basel, and will next face American Brandon Nakashima on Thursday.
