Stan Wawrinka has withdrawn from this week's ATP event in Montpellier, and announced that he will also not play in Rotterdam next week.

The 13th-ranked Swiss did not specify his injury, but said he hoped to be "back on the court soon" after his Australian Open quarterfinal loss to Alexander Zverev.

Wawrinka had acknowledged problems with his movement in his encounter against the German, following a physically grueling start in Melbourne—he had a fever before play began and won five-setters against Andreas Seppi and Daniil Medvedev.

Fabio Fognini and Andrey Rublev have also withdrawn from Montpellier, while Gael Monfils has received a wild card.

Wawrinka is next scheduled to compete in Acapulco.
