Ben Shelton's first career major singles win pushes U.S. contingent to 8-0 on Day 2 of Australian Open


Day 2 of the Australian Open had a little bit of everything: extreme heat, dramatic five-setters and a barrage of rain. But for the Americans who managed to get their matches completed, it was good news all around. Eight for eight to be exact:

Jenson Brooksby d. Christopher O’Connell, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3, 6-2.


Ben Shelton d. Zhang Zhizhen, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, 2-6, 7-6 (10-4) – saved 1 M.P.


Up 4-1 in the third, Lauren Davis was among those in a winning position when rain struck a second time. Lucky loser Michael Mmoh was also up 3-1 in the fifth after climbing back from two sets and a match point down.
