Court Conditions

This tournament is played on a GreenSet acrylic hard-court surface, which classifies as a medium to medium-fast speed. Last year, Ultimate Tennis Statistics had the second of the two Adelaide events with a court speed of 79. That’s a bit faster than what we’ve seen at the Australian Open in recent years, which is why the past tournament winners have been heavy hitters. The Australian Open is known for being one of the quicker tournaments in tennis, which says a lot about this event. It isn’t a coincidence that some of the champions since 2022 include players like Kokkinakis, Keys and Sabalenka. Keep that in mind when looking to bet over the course of this week.

Men To Watch

Sebastian Korda (+600): Korda has never won this event, but he nearly beat Djokovic in the final of Adelaide 1 last year. The American lost 6-7 (8), 7-6 (3), 6-4 in that match, and he earned wins over Kokkinakis and Jannik Sinner along the way. It was a good showing for Korda, who needs to flush a bad straight-set loss to Yannick Hanfmann in the Round of 32 in Brisbane last week. Korda has the game to make a run here.

Alexander Bublik (+800): This will be Bublik’s first event of the 2024 season, but he has a decent shot at making a run here. As always, Bublik needs to take this tournament seriously and give it his all. If he does, he’ll have a great chance of making some noise. Bublik has one of the biggest serves on tour, making him a tough out on these courts. He is also capable of playing dangerous tennis from the baseline. He just needs to avoid costly errors.

Alexei Popyrin (+2000): Popyrin’s booming serve and powerful baseline strokes give him a chance whenever he’s on the court, but he’ll be even more explosive with the Aussie crowd behind him. Popyrin has also played a few matches already in 2024, so he’ll be in better form than most this week. Don't be surprised if he pulls a Kokkinakis and has a special week in this environment.

Women to Watch

Elena Rybakina (+200): Rybakina looked as good as anybody in Brisbane, so she's ready to go this season. She also has the type of game you need to thrive during the Australian summer. Rybakina is one of the best servers that the women's game has to offer, but she also has a complete game from the baseline. She's the player to beat in this field as long as she doesn't decide to pull out of this event in order to stay healthy for Melbourne.

Caroline Garcia (+1400): Not many people have been able to strike fear in Iga Swiatek over the last couple of months, but Garcia has a pair of three-set losses to the Pole in that span. That’s rather impressive for the Frenchwoman, who has to feel like she has the potential to do some good things early in the season. Garcia is one of the best servers on tour, and she should be eager to put a down 2023 season behind her.

Karolina Pliskova (+4000): Pliskova scored a win over a returning Naomi Osaka in Brisbane last week, and she then lost a competitive match to Jelena Ostapenko. That’s a decent pair of results for the 31-year-old, and she should be a tough out Down Under. Pliskova can be difficult to beat when she’s hitting her spots with her serve. She doesn’t move as well as she used to, but a run at this type of event can’t be ruled out. Pliskova is also a former world No. 1 and it’s not every day that they are available at these odds.
