The 2024 tennis season ended just a few weeks ago—and the 2025 tennis season is just weeks away. There's no stopping the tours, and there will be no shortage of locales that players will visit: to date, there are combined 116 tournaments on the ATP and WTA calendars, beginning with the third annual United Cup in Australia.

(The 116 figure accounts for one ATP tournament and one WTA tournament at a combined event, and does not include Billie Jean King Cup, Davis Cup, Laver Cup or the Next Gen ATP Finals.)

In addition, we’ll follow the ATP across 29 different countries, and the WTA across 26. Let’s break this down further:

Facts to know

  • The WTA tour will travel to six countries the ATP will not: Singapore, U.A.E., Colombia, Hungary, Czech Republi, and Tunisia.
  • The ATP will travel to ten countries the WTA will not: Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Chile, Croatia, Kazakhstan, Monaco, Serbia, Sweden and Switzerland.
  • The tours will collide many times throughout the season, including at six 1000-level tournaments. In total there are 13 1000-level tournaments between both tours, starting in February with WTA-only Doha, through the end of October with ATP-only Paris.

There is also the European clay-court swing, where some of the biggest upsets—and often some of the best matches—set up an exciting Roland Garros. (Tennis in Europe calls for country-hopping at its finest, an excuse that the best of us know is no excuse at all, but rather a lifestyle.)

One change at the 1000 level will be felt at the combined Canadian and Cincinnati Opens, where instead of a week-long event, the tournaments will now be played over 12 days.

The ATP tour is also adding three ATP 500 level events to its calendar: Dallas, Doha, and Munich. This makes for a total of 16 ATP 500s next year.

The only new addition on the WTA tour is a 250 tournament to be hosted in Eastbourne, Great Britain, during the all-too-brief grass season.

There are many time zones to be traveled next year, and many great finds both in and around the tournament cities. We’ll see you there!
