A Gucci feeling! Jannik Sinner receives ATP No. 1 trophy in Monte Carlo

On Monday, Jannik Sinner officially became the first Italian to summit the top of ATP singles rankings.

Coming off a semifinal showing at Roland Garros, Sinner was back at a familiar setting to commemorate the tremendous occasion. The 22-year-old stepped out at the Monte-Carlo Country Club to receive the ATP No. 1 trophy from his compatriot Andrea Gaudenzi, chairman of the men’s tour.

Said Sinner in Paris after clinching the milestone, “It means a lot, but I think it's great for Italy. We are great country with great coaches and players, and we can see this now how this moment is. I'm happy to be part of this Italian movement. People, they start to play tennis now more and more, which is great to see. I think that's the most important.”

Photographer Corinne Dubreuil was on hand to document the Australian Open champion behind the scenes at the renowned tennis venue in Monaco, where April’s annual Masters 1000 event is staged.

The San Candido native is next scheduled to play the 500-level event in Halle prior to Wimbledon. It was at SW19 where Sinner reached his first major semifinal last year. He is 33-3 this season, boasted by three titles and three semifinal showings.

Sinner is the 29th player to hold the ATP’s No. 1 ranking and first newcomer to the prestigious club since Carlos Alcaraz in September 2022.

Alcaraz edged Sinner in five sets en route to triumphing at the clay-court major. In doing so, the Spaniard returned to No. 2. Novak Djokovic fell two spots to No. 3 after extending his record reign as ATP world No. 1 to 428 weeks.
