Out of the country clubs and into the streets: One of the most recognizable blocks in New York City is transforming into an open-air tennis club ahead of the US Open when "Tennis in Harlem: On the Block" takes to the concrete jungle this weekend.

The event will take place on W 120th Street, between Malcolm X Blvd and Mt Morris Park W, and will feature free tennis clinics, live DJs, food vendors, and more with the help of sponsors including On and Wilson, as well as the assistance of USTA Eastern locally.

But the vision is all thanks to the All-Love Racquet Club, which was founded in 2023 and bills itself as "a tennis club for the community."

"By infusing art, music, fashion, and entertainment, All-Love represents the modern culture of the sport," All Love Racquet Club says, with founder Erika Bond saying that the organization has three main goals that will "flip the script on what tennis can look like."

“This is about building culture, making the game accessible and showing that joy and athleticism belong on every block—starting in Harlem," says Atlanta native Bond, who was a former Division I player at Prairie View A&M University.

And Saturday's event isn't the only time that the group is taking tennis to the streets during New York's Grand Slam.

On Thursday, Aug. 21, the group is hosting its "Love to Dream" Tennis Classic in Jamaica, Queens, and its "Tennis for the People" festival is coming to the Upper East Side two days later.
