"One day at a time" is a refrain often heard in sports press conferences, when an athlete is asked about something significant that's coming up.

So when Alex de Minaur was asked about the Australian Open following his upset win over Novak Djokovic at the United Cup, you could forgive the Aussie for responding with the cliche (albeit not verbatim).

But the 24-year-old wasn't being asked about his tennis. Rather, he was asked whether an impending engagement to fellow player Katie Boulter was on the horizon.

"Jeez!" a clearly surprised de Minaur exclaimed. "Putting me on the spot here."

Much like in his win over Djokovic, de Minaur handled the challenge with aplomb.

"Yeah, it's not in the cards just yet; not ruling it out," said de Minaur. "For the time being, I'm going to try to focus on playing tennis...and then we'll think about the off-court activites.

The reporter wasn't quite done.

"If you win the AO?" he replied.
