Alizé Cornet "happy" with her final Roland Garros draw

By the pricking of my thumbs, something iconic this way comes…

Alizé Cornet revealed Tuesday that she will feature in the upcoming fourth season of Les Traîtres, the French version of The Traitors. She will be the first tennis player to partake in the popular game show, which originated in The Netherlands and has spawned over 30 international editions.

“Traitor or Faithful?” asks the former world No. 11 (in French) on her official Instagram. “One thing is sure, you’re not at the end of your surprises.

“Who is pumped for this new, explosive season?”

Cornet, who retired from tennis following last year’s Roland Garros, has certainly kept things interesting since deciding to end her tennis career, publishing a second novel and serving as a torchbearer for the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris.

For those following any of the English-language versions of The Traitors—the U.S. edition completed its third season only last week—20-odd contestants convene for a glorified game of “Mafia,” where a large group of Faithfuls seek to identify a smaller group of Traitors, who act as silent assassins tasked with “murdering” the former.

In other words, a game requiring wits and a strong social acumen? Cornet is so winning this season. There’s no better place for her famed flair for the dramatics to shine than at a Traitors roundtable.

The fourth season of "Les Traîtres" reportedly filmed in December, six months after Cornet ended her career at 2024 Roland Garros.

What other tennis players would excel on a season of The Traitors? I’m glad you asked: here’s a short list of current and former players off the top of my head:

  • Andy Roddick
  • Novak Djokovic
  • Martina Hingis
  • Danielle Collins
  • Daniil Medvedev
  • Sam Querrey
  • Sloane Stephens
  • Caroline Wozniacki

Frankly, one could fill an entire castle in the Scottish Highlands with just tennis players.

While our players have historically underperformed in reality competitions—Dancing with the Stars chief among them—something tells me Cornet has the chance to buck the trend on Les Traîtres.

The only question remains (in the words of U.S. host Alan Cumming): is she a Faithful or a Traitor?
