Anett Kontaveit talks about the highs and lows of the game in Romania 

The career of a tennis player for most means losing. It's very difficult to rise as the winner week in and out during the long 11-month season and Anett Kontaveit is fully aware. But as of late, she's been catching fire and it's no different this week in Romania. She managed to capture a seamless 6-3, 6-1 win over Anhelina Kalinina to enter the semifinals on Friday.

Just last week she took out two-time Grand Slam champion Garbine Muguruza en route to picking up the Kremlin Cup title in Moscow, and the week before that in the California desert she took out 2019 US Open champion Bianca Andreescu. On Friday, in Romania she confessed there was a time she didn't quite believe she could beat the best.

"We've played tennis for so many years, I think there's always some highs and lows. I really felt at some point that it was not realistic anymore for me to beat the best players. I was feeling a little bit down like this," she said in Romania.

Earlier this year, she decided to part ways from British coach Nigil Sears and is currently with Dmitry Tursunov.

"I have a new coach now and he's helped me see things from a more positive perspective and just take things easier and I've been able to enjoy being on court a little bit more."

This new perspective is translating very well onto the court for the 25-year-old. She's on a 13-indoor match winning streak and is just two wins away from picking up another title at the inaugural Transylvania Open.

Kontaveit also revealed which Romanian player's game she likes best and although it was a difficult question to answer, she ultimately went with two-time major champion Simona Halep.

"Simona is just an incredible player. Some of the matches even the ones she's played against me, she's been so strong, so consistent and also manages to play so aggressive," she said.

Kontaveit could possibly get another crack at trying to defeat Halep if the two advance into the WTA 250's final round. She holds a 0-3 record against Halep.
