Carlos Alcaraz took another step towards emulating idol Rafael Nadal at the 2022 US Open on Sunday, lifting his maiden major trophy with the help of the Babolat Aero racquet line.

The 19-year-old has played with Babolat racquets since 2013, and the first Grand Slam victory earned him a special congratulations from the popular racquet brand:

“Carlos Alcaraz cemented his place in tennis history at the US Open last night when he became the youngest men’s world No. 1, following his first victory in a Grand Slam final,” the brand wrote in a statement.

Alcaraz plays with the Pure Aero 98, part of the new line of Pure Aero racquets that were officially released in mid-August but has roots as far back as 2003.

“Convinced that players would increasingly lean towards spin to dominate their opponents, Babolat released the Aero—the world’s first aerodynamic racquet,” Babolat explained in a statement promoting the line. “Adopted by Rafael Nadal in 2004 and year after year by other top players, it has evolved continuously to become the ultimate racquet in the spin category.”

Alcaraz is part of a generation of exciting athletes, many of whom use the Pure Aero line—including Canadian stars Félix Auger-Aliassime and Leylah Annie Fernandez.

Along with their congratulatory message, Babolat also produced a short video commemorating Alcaraz’s breakthrough season.
