The Barty Party is set to expand in 2023 as former world No. 1 Ashleigh Barty announced her pregnancy on Instagram Friday afternoon.

“2023 set to be the best year yet,” Barty wrote to caption a photo of baby shoes. “We are so excited for our new adventure.”

Barty announced her retirement from tennis shortly after winning her third major title at the 2022 Australian Open, becoming the first Aussie to win in Melbourne since Chris O’Neil in 1978.

A whirlwind year followed for the 26-year-old, who married longtime partner and professional golfer Garry Kissick and released both a memoir and a series of children’s books about tennis and life on tour.

She ended 2022 with a record fifth Newcombe Medal, a second “Don” from the Sport Australia Hall of Fame Awards, and began the new year with a renewed—albeit less direct—involvement in tennis, reuniting with fellow players like Iga Swiatek and working as a mentor to young countrywoman Olivia Gadecki.

“I’ve been really fortunate to always be able to contact her if I have any questions or if I need advice, she has always been there for me,” Gadecki told the Australian Associated Press.

“The best part is she just treats me like a normal person and we can relate in that regard and off court is just as important as on court.”
