Not long after playing their final tennis matches, Jack Sock and Barbora Strycova each took to social media to announce their growing families: Brody Bryan Sock made his Instagram debut while Strycova revealed she was expecting her second child.

A former Top 10 singles player who peaked at No. 2 in doubles, Sock played the tournament of his career at the 2023 US Open in mixed doubles alongside Coco Gauff.

“It’s been 14 years of memories I will never forget,” Sock said in his farewell to the sport. “From winning four Grand Slams, Olympic gold and bronze, Top 10 rankings in singles and doubles and competing on the Davis Cup and Laver Cup teams, it’s been beyond what I could’ve ever dreamed. Without the help of so many people, none of that could've happened.”

The American married wife Laura Little back in 2020, and began planning a pivot into pickleball earlier this spring, playing his first events in May.

Strycova ended 2023 with another big announcement after a fairytale finish to her career, one that saw her return from maternity leave and win a second Wimbledon doubles title with partner Hsieh Su-Wei.

“Vincent is gonna be a big brother,” the former WTA doubles No. 1 announced on Instagram over the weekend.

Strycova left the tour in 2021 to give birth to Vincent, but long promised a return to action that took her on a successful farewell tour throughout 2023, featuring wins in singles and mixed doubles in addition to her signature triumph at SW19.

“It's a great fairy tale because it's my last Wimbledon playing ever, so I couldn't ask for a better finish,” she said at the All England Club.

With 2024 promising maternity leave returns from both Naomi Osaka and Angelique Kerber, might we see more fairytales next season?
