After a whirlwind New York City media tour following his breakthrough US Open victory, the newly crowned world No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz is doing anything but slowing down and taking things easy.

The 19-year-old touched down in Spain on Tuesday and headed straight to his Davis Cup squad's hotel in Valencia to begin his preparations for the team event’s group stage.

“I’m very happy and excited to be here," Alcaraz told press at the airport. "I’m here to contribute even a little grain of sand to the national team.”

Upon arrival in Valencia, Alcaraz was greeted by retired Spanish great David Ferrer, who led the congratulations for the youngest ATP Tour No. 1 in history after his maiden Grand Slam win.

“I’m very proud to be world No. 1, it’s a dream,” Alcaraz said. “It’s a huge joy to see that so many people have been supporting me every single match and in every single moment.

“It brings me great pride to be able to represent Spain everywhere I go.”

Spain is seeking its seventh Davis Cup title, having dominated the noughties with victories in 2000, 2004, 2008-09, 2011 and 2019. The “Armada” has been drawn into Group B, hosting Serbia, Canada and South Korea at home in Valencia.

According to Marca, Alcaraz is expected to hit the court in singles on Friday and Sunday against Canada and South Korea, respectively.

Roberto Bautista Agut and Albert Ramos Vinolas will also be in action in singles throughout the tie, while Marcel Granollers and Pedro Martínez have been picked for doubles. They’ll be up against a Canada led by Felix Auger-Aliassime, a Serbia that’s missing Novak Djokovic (due to personal reasons), but features two Top 50 players in Miomir Kecmanovic and Filip Krajinovic, and a South Korea led by Kwon Soonwoo.
