He plays with a lot of heart on the court, and he’s got a heart of gold off the court too.

Carlos Alcaraz showed once again why he’s become a fan favorite all over the world in Rio de Janeiro on Tuesday night, offering up a spot under his changeover chair’s mechanical roof to a ballkid after rain started pouring on Court Guga Kuerten:

Alcaraz had just held serve to go up 6-4, 5-3 against Brazilian wild card Mateus Alves when the skies opened, but it wasn’t the first weather delay in the match—earlier in the set, the winds had become so strong that pieces of the big screen were starting to come off, and upper sections of the stands had to be evacuated.

Play was eventually cancelled for the day, so Alcaraz and Alves will return to complete their first-round match on Wednesday.

This isn’t the first time Alcaraz has made this gesture in Rio—he did the same thing during his second-round match against Federico Delbonis last year in a match that was also eventually suspended and then completed the next day.
