NEW YORK—Caroline Wozniacki enjoyed enthusiastic crowd support on Saturday as she booked her spot in the US Open’s second week, but the former world No. 1 was looking for one face in particular on Grandstand court.

“I’m pretty mad at her for not showing up to my match,” Wozniacki joked during her on-court interview, calling her out for watching American Tommy Paul on Louis Armstrong instead.

“I think we have to talk about that a little bit later.”

The two-time US Open finalist, who is celebrating the one-year anniversary of her own comeback from an extended maternity leave, later confirmed she’d since gotten in touch with the 23-time Grand Slam champion, whom she’s counted among her closest friends over the last ten years.

“I love hanging with her,” Wozniacki said after defeating Jessika Ponchet in straight sets. “I love talking to her. You know, I love the support that I get from her, as well.

“I was texting her earlier today and hoping that we'll have time to catch up.”

Woznicki and Williams have been having fun together on and off the court for over a decade, Serena even serving as a bridesmaid in Caroline's 2019 wedding to David Lee.

Williams was on the grounds for the first time in 2024, paying tribute to her 2004 denim skirt with a similar look as she caught up with the likes of world No. 1 Iga Swiatek in addition to Wozniacki.

Though the six-time US Open champion has evolved away from tennis over two years ago, Wozniacki notes her bestie is as busy as ever.

“I think when you've been such incredible at something, I think you'll always have the opportunity, you'll always be great at whatever you put your mind to.

“I feel like to me she's always been that upbeat and happy person,” she added when asked if Serena seems lighter since hanging up her racquets. “Obviously, we're all in the zone when we're about to compete, and so that's different when you don't play anymore.

“But at the end of the day, I think she's always been, you know, a happy and outgoing person.”

It’s tough to imagine her sharing the court with someone other than her sister, but might we see Williams and Wozniacki team up for a legends doubles exhibition in the next few years?
