Horseshoe Bay Resort is the only destination in the world with three courses designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr. The Hall of Famer laid the groundwork for a spectacular golf program in 1971 with the creation of Slick Rock, which helped revive the PGA’s Texas Open. Fifty years and three courses later, Horseshoe Bay completed its crown jewel when Cap Rock was named the Clubhouse of the Year by Golf, Inc.

These premier amenities have landed Horseshoe Bay on Golf magazine’s list of 100 Best Resorts in North America. Members are known to fly in for a day—landing at Horseshoe Bay’s own airstrip—just to play a round.

Each course has been renovated in recent years with world-class quality from tees to pins. The three RTJ courses vary in difficulty. Slick Rock helps beginners with five sets of tees, and then challenges them on the approaches.

Apple Rock treats experienced players to spectacular hilltop and lakefront views. Ram Rock tests the cream of the crop with dramatic elevation changes and 10 rugged water features.

Jones expertly designed the courses around the hilly terrain to offer up panoramic vistas at every turn. Take them in from the tee boxes so you aren’t tempted to peek during your swing.

“You can look out and see the lake and the trees, and each hole is different,” says Destination Tennis host Monica Puig.

Another standout feature is the 18-hole Whitewater Putting Course, complete with bunkers and water features. It’s one of only four in the country with real Bermuda grass, and perhaps the only mini-course where giant turtles roam. Last place buys drinks at Whitewater 360 Sports Club, a dazzling bar with TVs showing covering every sightline under a soaring, airy cabana roof.

Cap Rock Clubhouse captures Horseshoe Bay’s distinctive combination of natural beauty and luxury. The Frank Lloyd Wright-style glass pavilion situates winding hilltop decks around rocky terrain for exhilarating views of Lake LBJ and the hills beyond.

“It feels like a lodge that you’d see in Lake Tahoe, with stone and rustic-cool design,” Puig says.

Whatever number was on your scorecard, you’ll feel like a winner here at the end of the day.
