Diego Schwartzman showed his support for La Albiceleste by attending the Argentina-Saudi Arabia game at the World Cup in Qatar.

Unfortunately for him, and millions of other Argentine fans watching back home, cheers weren't enough, as one of the top title favorites was toppled in a stunner.

The Argentine took to Instagram on Monday to post his arrival in Qatar with a photo dump of him, his girlfriend and friends.

Amongst the thousands of fans at Lusail Stadium was fellow tennis player, Victoria Azarenka. Like so many others, Azarenka wanted to catch a glimpse of global superstar Lionel Messi, the six-time FIFA World Player of the Year who has yet to win a World Cup title.

The last time Argentina won the World Cup was in 1986. After Messi and his team lost to France in 2018 during the Round of 16 at the World Cup in Russia, he has been on a continuous pursuit to lead the nation back to a World Cup victory.

During Tuesday's game, the Argentine forward scored the team’s first—and only—goal of the game. A second-half surge from Saudi Arabia left Argentina in abject disappointment, and a title further out of reach.

Schwartzman and Azarenka were amongst many Argentine fans to witness one of the most stunning upsets in World Cup history. Both shared similar sentiments of dejection as their side was taken down by the 51st-ranked team.

Despite the defeat, Schwartzman remained prideful. Following the game, he posted on Instagram to encourage unity and trust in the team and its superstar, as Argentina still has two more opportunities at achieving victory.
