Born in Kyiv, Ukraine, and raised in Hamburg, Germany, rising WTA star Eva Lys credits her rapid progress to one thing: keeping family close every step of the way.

She’s stayed true to that approach during the grass-court swing, playing on home soil in Berlin last week and now preparing for Bad Homburg in the build-up to Wimbledon.

The 23-year-old has been climbing the rankings fast—speedrunning career milestones since her breakthrough run to the fourth round at the 2025 Australian Open. After making the main draw in Melbourne as a lucky loser, Lys became Germany’s No. 1 player for the first time in February.
