Tsonga, Monfils, Simon and Gasquet.

The band is back together! ‘Les Four Musketeers’ Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Gilles Simon, Richard Gasquet and Gael Monfils reunited this week at Roland Garros to celebrate the recently-retired Gasquet.

Stalwarts of French tennis in the modern age, fans resurrected the nickname first given to Jean Borotra, Jacques Brugnon, Henri Cochet and René Lacoste in the 1920s and 30s for Gasquet, Monfils, Simon and Tsonga, and they came together to celebrate Gasquet's official farewell to professional tennis.

After defeating countryman Terence Atmane in the opening round, Gasquet fell in straight sets to Jannik Sinner in the second, ending his career on the biggest court in France.

As captured by Monfils' wife, Elina Svitolina, from across the table at the event, the quartet was seen commemorating their reunion with a legendary selfie.

Tsonga eventually shared the original image, a snapshot that has already been seen far and wide across the tennis web.

Merci, Richard.

Merci, Richard.

The celebration featured a towering dessert display created by French pâtissiers Christophe Michalak and Damien Angelucci. The “mounted cabbage piece”, as described by the pâtissiers, read “Merci Richard” on a 360-degree table arrangement. While the tennis balls were purely decorational, everything else was up for grabs.

With Tsonga and Simon preceding Gasquet in retirement, Monfils is the last Musketeer standing—and after another thrilling effort at his home Slam, the 38-year-old says he's still raring to do it all again in Paris next year.
