Geared Up: Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard plays a massive game with Babolat and Nike

Racquet: Babolat Pure Drive ($249)

Standing 6-foot-8 with long, aggressive strokes, Perricard doesn’t need much help in the power department. So putting a Pure Drive in his hand almost seems unfair. With its firm, chunky beam tailor-made to turbocharge groundies and serves, the racquet is synonymous with baseline aggression. The frame has excellent stability for its weight and a forgiving sweet spot that fills in the gaps on any mishits.

This latest version has SWX Pure Feel technology intended to better disperse vibrations for a friendlier sensation at impact. That said, few players gravitate to the Pure Drive because its warm and fuzzy; taking the cover off the ball is more the attraction. And there aren’t many racquets better equipped at busting open or turning the tables on a point with just one swing.

The stretch-knit fabric on this top is lightweight and breathable so you stay dry and cool. An innovative seam design around the shoulders promotes unrestricted movement and a comfortable feel. The ribbed collar and multi-tone color pattern give it a stylish look.

The Spandex in these stretchy woven shorts allows them to adjust to the most aggressive court coverage. The pockets are designed to house a spare ball securely without compromising the fit. An elastic waistband and drawstring enable a comfortable, tailored feel. They’re available with 7” and 9” inseams.

Shoes: Nike Vapor 11 PRM ($180)

This latest in the Vapor line is a dependable workhorse. It’s designed to sit lower to the court than previous iterations for a quicker first step and improved explosiveness. The tongue now has a ½ inner sleeve or bootie construction for better comfort and ease of entry. Cushioning comes via a dense EVA heel, with Zoom Air underneath the forefoot. Stability in side to side movement is buoyed by the molded sidewall on the lateral side of the shoe that encapsulates the heel. The data-informed outsole design has had rubber removed in low wear areas to keep weight at a minimum, while allowing for optimal grip and sliding capabilities.
