1. Charleston Roots

Navarro first picked up a racquet at the at the MUSC Wellness Center in downtown Charleston, where she spent many summer afternoons learning the game with father Ben and her siblings. She attended Ashley Hall, a private all-girls school in Charleston.

2. Ben Navarro

If Navarro's father sounds familiar, it might because he, too, has a presence in the tennis world. The business man runs the LTP tennis centers and is also the owner of the Volvo Car Open in Charleston. The WTA 500 event is one of the favorite stops on tour for many of the world's top players. Emma was able to play her home event this past year and captured her main-draw opener against Reneta Zarazua. She fell in the second round to Veronika Kudermetova 6-4, 6-4.
