Seeded No. 2 in the third edition of the mixed-gender team event, Poland sealed a quarterfinal berth on New Year's Day with a win over Czechia, which saw Swiatek beat Karolina Muchova for a third time after Hurkacz was beaten by 24-year-old Tomas Machac.

In the deciding mixed doubles, Hurkacz and Swiatek topped their singles opponents, 7-6(3), 6-3 to advance to a match with Great Britain.

But Czechia advanced to the knockout rounds, too, and will face Jasmine Paolini and Italy in the last eight.
