Who’s ready to scale a mountain?

If you didn't know already, today is National Hiking Day, or in some circles, National Take a Hike Day.

In the spirit of a day all about embracing what the great outdoors has to offer, we asked a handful of WTA and ATP players earlier this year to reveal the tour mate who’d make the best hiking companion.

The verdicts:

Aryna Sabalenka: “I think Paula (Badosa). We never actually did it but I think it would be really a lot of fun. I don't know if we would really able to make it all the way up.”

Stefanos Tsitsipas: “Someone who knows the mountains well. I would say that. Dominic Thiem, he knows the drill.”

*Disclaimer: this answer was provided before Tsitsipas began dating Badosa. :)

Jessica Pegula: “I feel like Shelby (Rogers). I always see her on hikes or taking pictures. I feel like she would be down for it. Coco, I don't know. I feel like she wouldn't be very into it.”

Casper Ruud: “I've seen Novak (Djokovic) do quite a bit of hiking on his social media. So I'm sure he's routine when it comes to a good hiking buddy.”

Maria Sakkari: “I have to go with Ajla Tomljanovic. We’re very good friends. I think it would be nice just to talk about a lot of things, gossip a little bit and just take the time.”

Daniil Medvedev: “I think Andrey would not make a good companion in terms of surviving, but we would definitely have a great laugh. So I'll pick Andrey and I will try to make him survive.”

Coco Gauff: “It would have to be someone that can survive if something goes wrong. So for that reason, I'm going to choose Andy Murray. The guy survives through everything. He’s surviving even when he's like a million match points down.”
