Monica Puig, who improbably won Olympic singles gold at the 2016 Rio Games, announced that she and husband Nathan Rakitt are pregnant for the first time.

"So excited to jump into our most exciting adventure yet!" Puig wrote on Instagram. "Baby girl Rakitt coming Summer 2025."

After numerous injuries, Puig retired from professional tennis in 2022 at 29. Since then, has contributed to Tennis Channel as an analyst and a host for Destination Tennis.

"It’s not a goodbye, but a see you soon," Puig wrote on social media. "Over the past 28 years of my life, tennis has been my constant. It has given me some of the most thrilling and memorable experiences I could have ever asked for. But, sometimes, good things come to an end. Today, I announce my retirement from tennis. After a tough 3 year fight with injuries and 4 surgeries, my body had enough.

Many of Puig's former tour-mates offered congratulations in the comments, including Alison Riske, Shelby Rogers, Christina McHale, Sabine Lisicki, Timea Babos, Barbora Strycova, Lucie Safarova and Carla Suarez Navarro.

"Maybe it's the hormones but I'm just tearing up with all the messages!" Puig wrote in her Instagram Story. "Thank you all so much 🩷 So excited for this new chapter."
