MATCH POINT: Marta Kostyuk moves past Caroline Dolehide in Indian Wells third round

Marta Kostyuk has powered her way into the fourth round at the BNP Paribas Open for the second time in her career. And while her tennis has been turning heads, her eye-catching outfit has been getting plenty of love from tennis fashion lovers, too.

Kostyuk is a Style Points favorite for a reason, and her new pink and purple ombre tennis kit is fit for Tennis Paradise. She’s been rocking Wilson’s Headliner Tennis Dress, which features a super-thin racerback, allowing her shoulders to move freely, and a flouncy iridescent skirt.

Designed to eliminate mid-match distractions, the dress also features UPF 50+ protection, a shelf bra with removable cups, and a lining that includes both a storage pocket and a ball pocket.

Its standout feature is its dreamy colorway, which starts as a purple-blue, and fades into pops of pink. Kostyuk completes the look with a matching pink scrunchie hair tie, as well as the new Wilson Intrigue shoe. The brand’s first women’s-only high performance tennis shoe, it was developed using feedback from Kostyuk herself.

The stylish 22-year-old is one of Ukraine’s top players—a point of pride that took on a whole new meaning in 2022 when Russia began its invasion of her country, triggering a conflict that continues to this day. At first, the responsibility felt like a burden; now, as the conflict enters its third year, Kostyuk says it’s become part of what motivates her on and off court.

“In the long term, you never know what’s going to happen, as we can see in the previous couple of weeks,” Kostyuk told press in Indian Wells. “You have to be ready for whatever life throws at you—because nobody on the other side [of the net] cares what you are going through.

“It’s important to put everything that’s outside of the court aside. Just go out there and do the job that you are doing.”

The No. 18 seed has indeed been getting the job done in Indian Wells. Kostyuk emphatically took down Robin Montgomery 6-1, 6-3 in the second round after a bye and on Sunday, she moved past Caroline Dolehide 6-3, 6-3. Kostyuk will face the winner of Zheng Qinwen, the No. 8 seed, and Lulu Sun in the fourth round.

Kostyuk reached her first WTA 1000 semifinal last year at Indian Wells—this year, she’s already reached a WTA 1000 quarterfinal in Doha, as she continues trending upward in the desert.

“We have a saying in Ukraine: `Everything will be fine, and if it’s not fine it means it’s not the end.' I try to stick to that.”
