'If we're both fit enough, why not?' Carlos Alcaraz and Rafael Nadal reaffirm Paris Olympic doubles hopes in Madrid

A day after claiming his Indian Wells opener, the Australian Open champion carried over his winning ways to the doubles court with good friend Lorenzo Sonego.

In front of a bursting Stadium 6 full of energetic fans, the Italian duo pulled away from Karen Khachanov and Andrey Rublev, 7-5, 6-1, after their opponents failed to serve out the first set at 5-4. And they had plenty of fun along the way as darkness fell over Tennis Paradise Saturday evening.

After a close first set, Sinner and Sonego poured it on in set two.

The two couldn't help but laugh for an extended period when Sonego finished off a 30-40 point they had no business winning in securing a double break in the second set.

The 2023 Davis Cup champion teammates had reason to smile when they went on an eight-game tear to blow the contest wide open.

Sonego and Sinner did not face a break point in their dominant second set.

Even Rublev couldn't help but grin when he embraced Sinner at the net.

The two will meet No. 5 seeds Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos next, likely scheduled for Monday.

Sinner acknowledged the loudest group of supporters before signing autographs for a lucky block of fans on his way out.
