It was a career-best run for Jasmine Paolini at the WTA 250 event in Slovenia. The Italian defeated Alison Riske, 7-6 (4), 6-2, in the final of the Zavarovalnica Sava Portoroz (we can’t pronounce it either), to pick up her first WTA title.

Despite being down two breaks in the opening set, she dug deep to come out on top in a battle that lasted nearly two hours.

"I think it’s been an amazing week here in Portoroz…I feel just very happy, it’s a big achievement for me, to win my first title on hardcourts, it’s special," she said.

En route to the final, the 25-year-old defeated three other seeded players, including Dayana Yastremska, Sorana Cîrstea and Yulia Putintseva.
