Rafael Nadal sells his stake in tennis academy for $94 million | TC Live

A piece of Roger Federer’s legacy went home with a lucky bidder who had more than $100,000 to spare after an 18-day bidding period on TheTennisAuction.com offered one of his Wimbledon-winning racquets up for grabs.

The recently-sold Federer memento is the exact racquet he used during his second Wimbledon-winning run in 2004, the first time in his career that he defended a major title. In the final, he defeated American Andy Roddick in four sets—sealing the match with an ace, in Federer fashion.

Signed for Anna Wintour and her daughter, the neck of the keepsake reads, “To Anna + Bee, Roger Federer.”

The bidding started at $10,000, and the racquet sold for $118,206 by the end of the bidding period, typing Rafael Nadal’s 2007 Roland Garros-winning racquet, used to beat the Swiss in a four-set final.

Tennis racquets from Novak Djokovic and Billie Jean King have also broken $100,000 at auction. The Serb's 2016 Roland Garros racquet sold for $107,482 and King’s 1973 Battle of the Sexes racquet went for $125,000.
