WATCH: Who knew the match point between Ruud and Rune was only the beginning of their heated clash?

As a contentious beef boiled over at the Met Gala, Azealia Banks once asked: “What is the tea, the girls are fighting?”

Here’s the tea: this time the boys are fighting, and with a simple shake of the head, Casper Ruud and Holger Rune usurped a 59-match rivalry as the most entertaining contest in tennis.

The rare all-Scandanavian clash between Norwegian Ruud and Danish Rune had initially been everyone’s hipster pick as the quarterfinal draw took shape, and the pair didn’t disappoint with their play. After falling behind a set and a break, the 19-year-old Rune clawed back and forced Ruud into a lengthy battle that came down to a lone break in a hard-fought fourth set, 6-1, 4-6, 7-6 (2), 6-3.

Still, there were signs that all was not well between the Ru-boys as the match reached its conclusion. Rune had made repeated outbursts towards his support box and umpire Louise Azemar-Engzell, and gave Ruud a brusque handshake that left the No. 8 seed shaking his head and giving great GIF.

All that was a mere opening act to what allegedly took place after the match: Rune claimed Ruud approached him in the locker room, yelling “YES!” (or "JA!") in his face.

Ruud’s father Christian, a former ATP player and primary coach to his son, denied the incident took place, promptly Rune’s long-suffering mother Aneke to enter the fray.

“The father had left, so for good reason he cannot know,” she told Ekstra Bladet, a Danish publication.

Asked on social media why Rune didn’t give his victorious opponent a brighter reception at net, Rune retorted, “Only hug friends, sorry.”

Ruud addressed the allegation in a video with Eurosport Norway, categorically denying the exchange took place:

But even before this latest saga took place, it's safe to say the 23-year-old wasn’t altogether charmed by the teenager’s conduct during Wednesday’s match.

“I don’t know Holger personally, but I have seen on TV that sometimes there can be a lot of drama. He’s young and new, so that’s excusable, but when you’re on a big stage, it might be time to grow up a bit”, he told Norwegian daily VG.

Rune later went on his Instagram in an attempt to diffuse things:

Have we gotten the full story? Probably not. Will Holger and Casper ever hug it out? Who cares! This is exactly the kind of low-stakes drama the tournament needed, and I can’t wait for these two, who have already met four times in the last year, to face off again.
