Class was in session when surging American Shelby Rogers zoomed in for a guest appearance at Gerald Ford Elementary School.
Rogers edged into the fourth round of the BNP Paribas Open on Sunday, dropping just two games against Irina-Camelia Begu, and is yet to drop a set in the California desert. Making the most of an off day, the 28-year-old made a virtual trip to Ms. Larson’s fourth grade glass and spoke about her experience as a professional tennis player for an enraptured group of young students.
“Thanks for all the great questions!” Rogers tweeted after the visit.
Unseeded at the WTA 1000 event, Rogers will next play US Open runner-up Leylah Fernandez for a spot in the quarterfinals on Tuesday afternoon. Rogers enjoyed her own impressive run in Flushing Meadows, stunning world No. 1 Ashleigh Barty to reach the round of 16.
