Marin Cilic made a winning start to his 2022 season on Wednesday, never getting broken—and fighting off both break points he faced—en route to a 6-4, 7-6 (3) victory over Brazilian lefty Thiago Monteiro in his opening match in Adelaide.

And it was a milestone win for the Croat—the 550th tour-level win of his career.

Cilic is the 40th man in the Open Era to reach 550 career tour-level wins, and just the seventh active men’s player to reach that milestone.

After spending almost two years in the No. 36-47 range on the ATP rankings, Cilic had an impressive run during the indoor season last fall, reaching his 35th career ATP final in Moscow and then winning his 20th career ATP title the next week in St. Petersburg—those two weeks propelled him from No. 41 to No. 28.

The 2014 US Open champion is currently ranked No. 30.
