Ideally, when forming any type of team, it’s always good to have a mix of youth and experience. Wide-eyed enthusiasm tempered by the calming presence of a veteran has the potential to work wonders—and if the end result is victory, the celebrations could be epic.

Tennis fans found that out first-hand after the group stage of the Davis Cup Finals this fall, when Great Britain hosted France, Switzerland and Australia.

Competing in Manchester Arena, in a city renowned the world over for its football clubs, the British squad of Dan Evans, Cameron Norrie, Neal Skupski, Andy Murray and Jack Draper put on a show for the thousands in attendance to advance to the Final 8—beating France in a winner-take-all doubles match in the final round-robin tie.

After everything that comes with the end of a match was done, Draper hitched a ride home with Murray. With the 21-year-old still in party mode after a thrilling Davis Cup debut, Draper definitely made it a lively journey for his older teammate.

Murray gave a glimpse of what the trip entailed (and what song was playing on repeat) on his Instagram story.

Even though the song is much older than Draper, and Murray only being a toddler when it was released, “(I’m Gonna Be) 500 Miles” by Scottish duo the Proclaimers has stood the test of time, and become an anthem recognized the world over.

Later, Draper looked back on the moment, saying he’d “maybe had a few drinks,” while also adding that Murray gave his DJ skills a passing grade.

They weren’t able to replicate the celebration in the knockout stage, as the injury-plagued British team fell to Serbia. Still, with Draper poised to continue his own comeback and Murray plugging away, the potential is there for more “carpool karaoke” moments in 2024.
