Carla Suarez Navarro has called it a career.

After battling back from cancer, the Spaniard returned in May to begin her farewell tour. It would begin at Roland-Garros where she fought but came up short against Sloane Stephens in her opener, and end at the US Open, losing to Danielle Collins in the first round.

However, it wasn't until the Billie Jean King Cup this week—where Navarro finally put her career to rest. Playing for Team Spain, the former world No. 6 played both singles and doubles against Slovakia, losing in singles, but teaming up with Sara Sorribes Tormo to defeat Viktoria Kuzmova and Tereza Mihalikova.

After the win, the captain of Team Spain, Anabel Medina Garrigues, praised Suarez Navarro, saying “I am super happy for all the team but especially Sara and Carla as they made a big effort."

In the Billie Jean King Cup, Team Spain couldn't move past Team USA, losing both singles matches to send America to the semifinals where they then fell to Team Russia.

Suarez Navarro turned pro in 2003, eventually reaching a career-high ranking of world No. 6 in 2016. The Spaniard won two singles and three doubles titles on the WTA.
