WATCH: Elisabetta Cocciaretto charms crowd with a little French after Roland Garros breakthrough

World No. 51 Elisabetta Cocciaretto's tennis has played eye-catching tennis through three rounds at Roland-Garros, as the unseeded Italian has beaten two Top 20 players en route to the fourth round at a Grand Slam for the first time. But it was the post-match scenes following a 7-6(4), 6-2 win over No. 17 seed Liudmila Samsonova on Court Suzanne-Lenglen on Friday that might's truly won over Paris' hearts.

Laughing and giggling through her entire on-court interview with Mats Wilander, the 23-year-old also charmed the famously-fickle Roland Garros crowd by speaking a little French.

"Bonjour, Paris," she began to cheers, breaking into a big smile. She went on to make a little joke at her expense, telling the fans that though she studied the language in school, she still wants to speak it better.

With much having been made over the beahvior of Paris' faithful over during first week of the tournament, Cocciaretto, instead, was happy to have them in her corner even before she flexed her polyglot skills.

"I'm really, really happy to have this support," she said. "It helped me a lot on the match point. It keeps me to be more aggressive, to go to win the point, so I'm really, really grateful about it, and I hope you'll come to support me for the next match."

In addition to Samsonova, Cocciaretto also came from a set down to defeat No. 13 seed, and 2023 semifinalist, Beatriz Haddad Maia in the first round. But she nearly found herself down a set again on Friday, as Samsonova was two points away from winning the first set at 6-5 after clawing back from a 4-0 deficit.

"I think I played unbelievable the first games, and after, I was overthinking, so I said to myself, 'Play with the heart and not with the brain,' because if you think too much, OK," Cocciaretto said, animatedly minicking being overwhelmed.

"I tried to stay in the game, to fight, and I'm really, really happy to play on this court, be in the fourth round for the first time. It's unbelievable for me right now."

Cocciaretto will next bid for her second career Top 10 win, and second at Roland Garros, against No. 3 seed Coco Gauff on Sunday. (Twelve months ago, Cocciaretto beat then-No. 10 Petra Kvitova in the first round.)
