They've still got it: Gael Monfils and Andy Murray put on a show on Wednesday in the first round of the Open Aix Provence Crédit Agricole, an ATP Challenger event in Aix-en-Provence, France.

The two former Top 10 players entered this week's ATP Challenger event—Murray as the fifth seed and Monfils as a wild card—in the hopes of getting more match play. Monfils is 1-5 this year after returning from a nine-month injury hiatus at the BNP Paribas Open, while Murray is 2-5 in his last seven matches dating back to a runner-up finish to Daniil Medvedev in February.

Murray also dropped his first two matches on clay at back-to-back ATP Masters 1000 events: first, to Alex de Minaur in Monte Carlo, and second, to Italian qualifier Andrea Vavassori in Madrid. Against Vavassori, Murray was particularly frustrated, and the Scot revealed to reporters later that there are a "few different opinions" within his team as it relates to playing at Roland Garros later this month.

But on a packed Court Credit Agricole, the two former Top 10 players, and now late-30-somethings, showed some of their vintage best. Take this cat-and-mouse point in the first set, for example, which Murray won to lead 5-2.

Murray eventually won the match, 6-3, 6-2.

Monfils and Murray's rivalry—and friendship—began 25 years ago when they first played as juniors. Wednesday's matched marked the first time they ever played each other in an ATP Challenger, their first match in nearly nine years, and their seventh professional meeting overall.
