NEW YORK—Casper Ruud called NYC “the city of dreams,” and for Ons Jabeur, one big dream already came true when she came face-to-face with idol Andy Roddick at the US Open.

Jabeur was fresh off reaching her first semifinal in Flushing Meadows—defeating Aussie Ajla Tomljanovic in two tight sets—when she had the opportunity to chat up a former champion she’s been dying to meet.

“For some reason, I was watching him a lot when I was young,” she told Sabine Lisicki earlier this year. “I like his humor on court. The personality matches and I love his serve. I love the way he’s competitive on court.”

After getting a hug from Roddick, she was able to ask if he planned to stay through the end of the tournament and when he said “yes,” Jabeur regained her composure to crack, “I’ll have to make it, then!”

“You’re gonna make it,” assures Roddick, who has been a fan of the talented Tunisian since her initial rise up the rankings.

Jabeur will face Western & Southern Open champion Caroline Garcia for a spot in her second straight Grand Slam final on Thursday.

But the question remains: when are we getting Jabeur and Roddick together for mixed doubles? Something tells me their combination of serve and finesse would be tough to beat.
