WATCH: Williams showed she can still serve notice, both on and off the court at Wimbledon.

She may have missed nearly a year of action, but Venus Williams has lost none of her edge—on the court and off.

The five-time Wimbledon champion made a surprising return to Wimbledon on Friday when she partnered Jamie Murray to score a three-set win over Alicja Rosolska and Michael Venus, 6-3, 6-7 (3), 6-3, marking the second successful Williams-Murray mixed pair in three years.

Asked whether Venus and Jamie could surpass siblings Serena and Andy, who reached the third round in 2019, the elder Williams sister took understandable umbrage.

“What kind of question is that?” she said before adding sarcastically. “We're in it for a stroll. C'mon.”

Pressed further on her exact motivations to enter the Championships and whether she and Murray were here “to go all the way,” Venus shot back a question of her own.

“Are you going to write a good article or a halfway decent one?”

“I’m going to do what I usually do,” the journalist replied.

“Us too,” said Venus.

After almost three decades on tour, one should know: the Williams sisters—and the Murray brothers—are never not in it to win it.
