Young fails to make US Open main for first time since '05

They say all good things must come to an end.

For the first time since 2005, Donald Young will not compete in the main draw of the US Open. Young lost to former Michigan Wolverine Jason Jung in the first round of qualifying 6-3, 6-7 (4), 7-5. Because he didn't advance past the first round, Young is not eligible to receive a lucky loser entry, thus ending his streak.

Young first appeared in the US Open in 2005 as a 16-year-old wild card he earned by winning the USTA Boys’ 18 & Under National Championships at Kalamazoo, MI. One way or another, through wild cards, qualifying or direct entry, Young appeared in 14 consecutive US Open main draws.

Young owns a career 11-14 record at the US Open and twice reached the fourth round in 2011 and 2015. He is currently ranked No. 198 in the world.
