2026 Roland Garros Men’s Draw: Jannik Sinner & Novak Djokovic in opposite halves, Fils gets Wawrinka

PARIS—The potential of a blockbuster Roland Garros final between Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic became reality during Thursday’s official draw ceremony, leaving the door open for a championship match full of historic implications.

Djokovic landed in the same half of the 128-player field as second-seeded Alexander Zverev, the 2024 runner-up in Paris. Fourth seed Felix Auger-Aliassime was drawn on the same side as the world No. 1, with fifth seed Ben Shelton Sinner's projected quarterfinal opponent.

Sinner is the favorite to lift the trophy, sweeping all three ATP Masters 1000 clay-court titles in Monte Carlo, Madrid and Rome following his successful Sunshine Double triumph. The 24-year-old is currently on a career-best 29-match win streak and opens against wild card Clement Tabur.

As Sinner seeks to became the second man to complete a Career Grand Slam this year after Carlos Alcaraz—who denied him three championship points in last year's instant classic but is currently sidelined with a wrist injury—Djokovic once again makes a run at an all-time record 25th major trophy. The three-time champion fell to Sinner in the final four here a year ago, but is one of just two men to defeat the Italian this year with his Australian Open semifinal victory.

Djokovic finds himself in an interesting section beginning with Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard. Joao Fonseca is the first seeded opponent the soon-to-be 39-year-old could face, while his Rome conquerer Dino Prizmic also looms as a third-round possibility. Two-time runner-up Casper Ruud, fresh off a finalist effort at the Internazionali BNL d'Italia, is floating here as well.

Zverev’s quarter is full of home hopefuls, as the German starts with Benjamin Bonzi and has a 75 percent chance of facing a Frenchman in the third round should he advance to that stage. The most eye-catching part of this draw is an opening showdown between No. 17 seed Arthur Filis and 2015 title holder Stan Wawrinka, who is making his final appearance.

Also bidding farewell to this tournament: Gael Monfils. One of the sport's all-time greatest showmen meets fellow wild card Hugo Gaston in his 19th main draw, but will first host a special “Gael & Friends” event Thursday evening on Court Philippe Chatrier. Djokovic and Sinner are among the expected participants.

Elsewhere, seventh seed Taylor Fritz drew Nishesh Basavareddy, the USTA Roland Garros Wild Card Challenge winner. The winner of that tussle could find rapidly-rising Rafael Jodar across the net in the third round. In another all-American encounter, 19th seed Frances Tiafoe is set to take on Eliot Spizzirri.
